ISLAMABAD: The family of the late Dr. Syed Rifaat Hussain, a renowned academic and scholar, has accused his younger brother anchorperson Syed Talat Hussain, of inflicting severe “psychological pain”, and “mental torture” on their father while he was on death bed.
Dr Riffat Hussain passed away last week after protracted illness. He was 73 years old.
In a strongly worded statement, the family has dismissed Talat Hussain’s public affection of grief as “false propaganda” and devoid of reality.
The family alleged that Talat Hussain, along with his eldest brother Fayyaz Hussain distanced themselves from the burial procedures.
“The fact is that Mr. Talat refused to attend our father’s funeral/Namaz-e-Jannazah on March 7th, 2025, prevented his siblings and close relatives from attending it, and was absent from all proceedings to date”, the family said in the statement.
The family also claimed that Talat Hussain pressured doctors to discharge Dr. Rifaat prematurely from the ICU despite his critical condition, which included double pneumonia, multiple organ failure, and dangerously high sugar levels.
Talat Hussain and Fayyaz Hussain made verbal and written threats against Dr. Rifaat’s wife, Sammia Rifaat, and his three sons, Hamzah Rifaat, Hannan Hussain, and Haider Rifaat, the family has claimed.
“Talat’s motivation stemmed from a deep-rooted fixation to impose power and influence, demonstrating his ability to ruin our lives,” the statement said.
The family claims to have documented proof of Talat Hussain’s actions, including direct conversations as evidence of psychological harassment. They alleged that this distress was a major factor behind Dr. Rifaat’s sudden passing on March 7, 2025, at 1:34 PM in Islamabad.
DISMISSAL OF PUBLIC STATEMENTS
The family rejected Talat Hussain’s social media tributes to his late brother, calling them a “cover-up” and “fabricated expressions of love.”
“To honor our father’s legacy, we must expose the truth. His entire life was built on honesty and integrity, and he never harbored ill intentions towards anyone,” the family said.
APPEAL FOR PRAYERS
Concluding their statement, Dr. Rifaat’s family urged people to pray for his maghfirat and extended condolences to those who were allegedly barred from attending his funeral. They also invited well-wishers to contact them directly.
There has been no immediate response from Talat Hussain regarding these allegations.
