WEB DESK: Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt have reached a divorce settlement, according to Jolie’s lawyer, marking the end of one of Hollywood’s longest and most contentious divorces.
The news, first reported by People magazine, was later confirmed by Jolie’s attorney, James Simon.
“Angelina filed for divorce more than eight years ago,” Simon stated. “She and the children left all shared properties and have since focused on healing and finding peace. While this settlement is just one step in a lengthy process, Angelina is relieved to see this part resolved.”
The agreement has yet to be filed in court and will require a judge’s approval. A request for comment sent to Pitt’s attorney on Monday night went unanswered, according to AP news agency.
Jolie, 49, and Pitt, 61, were a high-profile Hollywood couple for 12 years and share six children. Angelina Jolie filed for divorce in 2016, citing an incident during a flight from Europe where she accused Brad Pitt of being abusive toward her and the children, allegations he denies.

The pair were declared legally single in 2019, but issues regarding asset division and child custody remained unresolved.
An initial decision by a private judge awarded the couple equal custody of their children. However, Jolie later challenged the judge’s involvement due to a conflict of interest.
An appeals court sided with Jolie, removing the judge and restarting the custody process.
Details of the settlement have not been disclosed. The use of a private judge, a common choice among celebrities, has kept much of the proceedings private.
However, separate legal disputes have revealed some information, such as Pitt’s lawsuit alleging Jolie backed out of an agreement to sell her share of their French winery to him. It remains unclear how this settlement will impact that case.
