Varun Dhawan-starrer, “Baby John”, kicked off at the box office with a bang, earning a whopping Rs410 million on its very first day.

WEB DESK: Varun Dhawan’s latest action flick, “Baby John”, kicked off at the box office with a bang, earning a whopping Rs410 million on its very first day.

The movie draws inspiration from the 2016 Tamil movie, ‘Theri’, and marks the actor’s best opening in five years.

The cast includes Keerthy Suresh, Wamiqa Gabbi, Jackie Shroff, and Rajpal Yadav.

Baby John is directed by Kalees and produced by Murad Khetani, Priya Atlee and Jyoti Deshpande. There is also a special cameo by one of the Khans – Salman, which definitely helped draw in the audience.

Despite a strong box office performance, audience reception seems to be mixed. As per local news outlets, the biggest criticism was levied on the movie’s pacing and its action scenes.

The movie was reportedly described as ‘predictable’, and even critiqued for being “too similar” to the original.

Baby John was released alongside blockbuster, “Pushpa 2” and Disney’s yet another live action based on previous releases, “Mufasa: The Lion King”.

The movie heavily benefited from Christmas Day, with moviegoers having a day off to go and enjoy the movie in the cinemas.

The movie’s financial performance was projected to be between Rs420 million to Rs490 million.
