WEB DESK: In a recent post on Instagram’s version of Twitter – Threads, Microsoft founder Bill Gates shared a valuable time management tip from Warren Buffett, which he confessed took him too long to grasp.

Reflecting on his own experience, Gates acknowledged that he could have learnt this lesson much sooner by observing Buffett, the CEO of Berkshire Hathaway, who is renowned for maintaining an “intentionally light” calendar.

Gates said that achieving success does not require filling every second of one’s schedule. Posting on Threads, Gates highlighted an article titled ‘How to be Less Busy and More Happy’ from The Atlantic. He stated, “It took far too long for me to realise that you don’t have to fill every second of your schedule to be successful.” He added, “In hindsight, it’s a lesson I could have learnt a lot sooner had I taken more peeks at Warren Buffett’s intentionally light calendar.”

This is not the first occasion on which Gates has praised Buffett’s approach to time management. In a previous interview with Bloomberg, Gates, accompanied by Buffett, showcased how uncluttered Buffett’s calendar appeared. Gates recounted, “I remember Warren showing me his calendar. You know, I had every minute packed, and I thought that was the only way you could do things.”

Gates further elaborated on Buffett’s strategy, “The fact that he is so careful not to crowd yourself too much and give yourself time to read, think, and write”. Gates stressed, “You control your time, and sitting and thinking may be a much higher priority. It’s not a proxy of your seriousness that you’ve filled every minute in your schedule.”

Buffett reinforced this perspective, stating, “People are going to want your time. It’s the only thing you can’t buy. I mean, I can buy anything I want, basically, but I can’t buy time.”
