Pakistani celebrities speak out against unaffordable electricity prices

WEB DESK: In the face of exorbitant inflation, the burden of hefty electricity bills has left not only ordinary citizens but also renowned personalities from the showbiz and sports industries in a state of shock.
Speaking to Express News, famed actor Usman Peerzada expressed his bewilderment over the situation, stating that he is unsure how citizens will manage to pay their electricity bills in the coming days. He admitted that he himself cannot afford such high bills.
Renowned actor Khawaja Saleem shared his distress, revealing that all his earnings from a long career have been exhausted on medical treatments.
He lamented that his house and car have been sold, and his savings have depleted entirely. Saleem stated, “I am not begging; just return some of the taxes I have paid over the past 45 years so that I can at least afford my medical treatment.”
Former Pakistani Olympian hockey player Zahid Sharif also voiced his concerns, stating that due to financial difficulties, he is unable to pay his electricity bill. In a desperate move, he mentioned that aside from his medals, he has a kidney which he is ready to sell.
It is worth noting that prior to this, several artists including actors Rashid Mahmood, Nisho Begum, and Sangeeta had also raised their voices against the exorbitant electricity bills.
