WEB DESK: “Showtime” announced the return of the popular character Dexter Morgan in a new series titled ‘Dexter: Resurrection.’
Michael C Hall will reprise his iconic role, continuing the story from where the 2021 limited series ‘Dexter: New Blood’ left off.
This new installment is set to premiere in the summer of 2025.
The announcement was made during San Diego Comic-Con at the Dexter: Original Sin panel. Hall made a surprise appearance alongside Clyde Phillips, the executive producer and showrunner for both the new series and the upcoming prequel.

‘Dexter: Resurrection’ will follow the events of ‘Dexter: New Blood,’ set a decade after the original ‘Dexter’ series. The new series will pick up in the present day, continuing the narrative of Dexter Morgan. Phillips confirmed that ‘Dexter: Resurrection’ will pick up “right where we left off” from the previous series.
There is speculation that the show might be an ongoing drama rather than a limited series, with potential for multiple seasons.
In addition to ‘Dexter: Resurrection,’ Showtime is expanding the Dexter universe with a prequel series titled ‘Dexter: Original Sin.’ The series will be set in the 1990s and will explore Dexter’s early years. Patrick Gibson will portray a young Dexter, while Michael C Hall will narrate the character’s inner voice.
‘Dexter: Original Sin’ is scheduled to premiere in December 2024.
The original ‘Dexter’ series garnered a substantial fan following and was influential in the crime drama genre. The limited series ‘Dexter: New Blood’ premiered in 2021, ten years after the original series ended. The show received significant attention and renewed interest in the Dexter character, landing in the top rankings on Nielsen charts.
Michael C Hall hinted at the ongoing mystery surrounding Dexter’s fate following the dramatic finale of ‘Dexter: New Blood.’ Although the 2022 finale suggested Dexter’s demise, Hall’s comments suggested that the new series would address unresolved plot points.
He also indicated the possibility of revisiting past characters, given the “magical” nature of the Dexter universe.
