Documentary on Khadim Rizvi bags Emmy nomination


NEW YORK:  Documentary The Accused: Damned Or Devoted? based on the former Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) chief Khadim Hussain Rizvi has received a nomination for “Exceptional Merit in Documentary Filmmaking” at the 75th Primetime Emmy Awards.

Directed by the three-time Emmy nominee Mohammed Naqvi, the documentary traces the political ascent of the late TLP chief.

The Television Academy Honour recipient took to his Instagram to share the news. “We are proud to announce that ‘The Accused: Damned or Devoted?’ has been nominated for the category of ‘Exceptional Merit in Documentary Filmmaking’ at the 75th Primetime Emmy Awards,” he announced.

The esteemed Emmy judges acknowledged the documentary’s capacity to highlight social issues and spark valuable discussions.

Meanwhile, Naqvi conveyed his appreciation to the judges, recognizing their recognition of the profound impact that documentaries have in facilitating dialogue and promoting awareness.

The documentary was co-produced by Syed Musharaf Shah and Mohsin Abbas, with Syed, Muhammad Sohail Rana, and Rabbia Arshad serving as associate producers.

Rizvi was a Pakistani Islamic scholar, writer and the founder of TLP who garnered public attention following his advocacy in preserving Pakistan’s blasphemy law in 2017. Rizvi died of heart failure in November 2020.
