Kriti Sanon to play tragedy queen Meena Kumari in Manish Malhotra’s directional debut


MUMBAI: Indian fashion designer Manish Malhotra is making his directorial debut with a biographical film on the late actress Meena Kumari, casting the talented Kriti Sanon for the lead role.

The untitled biopic, currently in the scripting stages, will be produced by T-Series, led by Bhushan Kumar.

As per the Indian media reports, Malhotra has long expressed his aspiration to capture the captivating essence embodied by Kumari.

Kumari, also referred to as the tragedy queen, is remembered for her timeless performances and profound portrayals in over 90 films. Tragically, the Pakeezah actress’ life was cut short at the age of 38 due to cirrhosis of the liver, a condition associated with her struggle against alcoholism.

Meanwhile, Sanon, who is set to venture into production alongside Kajol in an upcoming project, has an exciting lineup of films. She will be seen in Vikas Bahl’s Ganpath – Part 1 alongside Tiger Shroff and Amitabh Bachchan. Additionally, she will feature in Rhea Kapoor’s The Crew alongside Kareena Kapoor Khan, Diljit Dosanjh, and Tabu. Sanon also has an untitled film with Shahid Kapoor scheduled for release in October 2023.
