WEB DESK: In what could only be scripted by the gods of cringe, Ranveer Allahbadia, better known as BeerBiceps, found himself in a whirlwind of controversy following his latest appearance on the comedy show, ‘India’s Got Latent’, hosted by the ever-‘quirky’ Samay Raina.
The episode, which was supposed to be a light-hearted romp through the world of comedy, instead turned into a masterclass of how to alienate an audience.

The trouble began when Allahbadia, in a moment of sheer brilliance, decided to ask a contestant about the “size of his *****”! Yes, you read that right!
In a world where comedies are supposed to push boundaries, the Indian YouTuber certainly outdid himself. But he wasn’t done yet; in fact, he was just warming up.
The YouTuber followed that up with a question that would even make the most seasoned of sailors raise an eyebrow. “Would you rather watch your parents have *** for the rest of your life or join in once to make it stop forever?”
Raina, who prides himself on his edgy ‘humour’, was left stunned, uttering a gobsmacked “What the”, which echoed what the viewers were feeling everywhere.
As if that wasn’t enough to send netizens into cancel mode, another people decided to take matters into his own hands and filed a complaint against the duo for “promoting obscenity”.
The complaint, which has not made its way to the Mumbai Police Commissioner and the State Women and Child Commission, is a testament to the fact that not everyone in on board with the “let’s shock the audience for the heck of it” approach to comedy.
The controversy has become popular enough for the usually useless public departments to earn some brownie points with the public. The Indian Ministry of Information and Broadcasting dove in, as well. The ministry’s deputy secretary was tasked with taking “relevant actions” against the show’s creators.
One can now only imagine the bureaucratic circus that will ensue as they try to navigate the murky waters if what constitutes acceptable humour these days.
Meanwhile, social media reputed into a fiery storm of anger and mockery. Some users called for the immediate cancellation of both, Allabadia and Raina’s YouTube channels. Really makes one wonder where is the outage for more important stuff, say, corruption, violence against women, rape culture.
While there were haters, some detractors praised the Indian Youtubers for their ‘valiant’ efforts to ‘save’ Indian society. Few pointed out just ‘unfollowing’ the duo as a good measure. Who knew sanity could prevail amidst the era of social media outrage.
In a desperate attempt to salvage his reputation, Allahbadia took to social media to issue an apology. The YouTuber claimed that his comments were a ‘lapse in judgement’ (temporary insanity is viable plea against murder charges, after all).
He insisted that he never intended to be funny – because, lets face it, comedy is clearly not his forte. The Indian ‘entertainer’ even went so far as to request the removal of the offending segment from the episode.
