LAHORE: A resident of Lahore named Muhammad Aurangzeb Khan has been incarcerated for seven months and slapped with a fine of Rs 500,000 for entering into a second marriage without the requisite approval from his first wife, as per the directives of Section 6(5) of the Muslim Family Law Ordinance.

According to a news report by Samaa news, Judge Adnan Liaquat pronounced the verdict at the Family Court in Lahore, on a petition filed by Zona Nasar, through her legal counsel Barrister Usman G Rashid Cheema, against Muhammad Aurangzeb Khan.

The written judgment says that the defendant breached legal requirements by contracting a second marriage without consent of his first wife, thereby flouting statutory obligations.

Consequently, the court handed him a custodial sentence along with a fine. Additionally, failure to remunerate the stipulated penalty shall result in an extended one-month detention period.
