Sneak-peek into the new Harry Potter HBO series

WEB DESK: HBO has officially started production of the highly anticipated new Harry Potter TV series. This will be the first step in bringing JK Rowling’s world of magic to the small screen.

The series is slated to debut in 2027, and is expected to combine several new themes and connotations in accordance with the changing tastes and trends of TV audiences. The series is also expected to offer a fresh, yet faithful, adaptation of the books with new actors playing most of the key roles. Instead of Daniel Radcliffe, now Dominic McLaughlin will play Harry Potter. HBO revealed a photo of McLaughlin in the classic Hogwarts uniform, round glasses, and the iconic lightning bolt scar.

The casting process for the main trio of Harry, Hermione, and Ron saw over 30,000 actors auditioning last year, and eventually McLaughlin won the round along with Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger and Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley.

According to British media reports, filming of the show has begun at Warner Bros Studios Leavesden in the UK. Alongside the three leads, other new actors joining the series include Rory Wilmot as Neville Longbottom, and Amos Kitson as Dudley Dursley, Louise Brealey as Madam Hooch, Anton Lesser as Garrick Ollivander, and John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore.

However, in addition to Laughlin himself, one more actor has caught the public eye and hearts. In this new adaptation, Nick Frost will be embodying Hagrid. While some fans are excited to see the new cast, some are remembering the extraordinary performance of the late Robbie Coltrane.

Severus Snape will be played by Paapa Essiedu and the role of Minerva McGonagall will be taken over by Janet McTeer.

Filming for Season 1 of the new HBO Harry Potter series will likely continue into early 2026 and season 2 will go into production soon after that. There’s some whispering about Cillian Murphy landing a very important part in the series too. We will let our readers guess, what that might be?
