RIYADH: Climate change is manifesting right before our eyes. Where on one hand the colder countries are experiencing heatwaves, the Al-Jawf desert in Saudi Arabia had its first snowfall in all of history.
Arab countries, including Saudi Arabia, have traditionally been classified as desert and hot regions. However, in the recent past many Arab nations, including the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has been experiencing not only heavy rains and hailstorms, but also greener landscapes and now even the snowfall.
The National Center for Meteorology of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has issued a statement on the snowfall saying that this unusual weather event was caused by the low temperature pressure in the Arabian Sea.
In a country where temperatures are usually recorded to 55 degrees Celsius, the emergence of frost has been equally pleasant and disturbing for the denizens.
The sight of snowfall is pleasant for the citizens but it also puts the country in a position where they have to make arrangements for dealing with new climate.
Earlier this year, many regions within the UAE including Dubai and Sharjah experienced massive flooding, after the heaviest rainfall in 75 years for the area.
