SAN FRANCISCO: Humane, a cutting-edge startup founded by former Apple employees Imran Chaudhri and Bethany Bongiorno, emerged from stealth mode last week to reveal its groundbreaking AI wearable, the Ai Pin.

Positioned as an anti-smartphone, the AI Pin envisions a future where users interact with information projected onto their palms, eliminating the need for conventional screens. Packed with AI capabilities, this small device, priced at $699, is poised to disrupt the market as it makes its debut in the US on Thursday, November 16.

‘GATE’ technology revolutionises AI understanding of human preferences

The AI Pin, powered by a Snapdragon processor, boasts advanced sensors and a unique laser ink display that projects visuals onto the user’s hand. As a screenless device, it introduces a novel way of interacting with technology. Tapping into OpenAI’s model, the AI Pin prioritizes voice commands through its AI Mic feature, allowing users to search, manage tasks, and navigate the device seamlessly.

Key Features of AI Pin:

1. Projection onto Palm: In contrast to traditional screens, the AI Pin projects information directly onto the user’s palm. Gestures like tapping fingers together or tilting the hand trigger specific actions, providing a tactile and intuitive interface.

2. Voice Command Dominance: With no conventional screen, AI Pin relies on voice commands facilitated by OpenAI’s model, AI Mic. Users can control various functions and interact with apps and accounts linked to the device, ensuring a hands-free experience.

3. Nutrition Facts and Real-time Translation: AI Pin extends its functionality beyond traditional communication by offering real-time translation capabilities and the ability to analyze food items for nutritional content, though accuracy in the latter is a point of consideration for users.

4. Privacy and Discretion: Addressing privacy concerns, AI Pin sets itself apart from other voice assistants by not passively listening. The absence of a wake word ensures the device activates only when manually prompted. A “prominent Trust Light” signals when the device is in use, mitigating surveillance worries.

Humane’s AI Pin and its accompanying accessories are priced starting at $699, with an additional $24 per month for a cellular plan through T-Mobile. Orders for the AI Pin will commence on November 16, with shipping scheduled to begin in early 2024.
