PESHAWAR: Additional police force has been sought for the troubled Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Kurram district, where tribal war has taken the lives of more than 130 people.
In this regard, Inspector General (IG) of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has written to the Additional Chief Secretary seeking more police force while emphasising the urgent need to secure and stabilize the district’s main highway to maintain peace and order in Kurram District.
The letter also recommends recruiting 400 ex-servicemen, including 350 constables and 50 head constables, to ensure security on the Thal-Parachinar Road, a critical supply line for the region.

The hiring is proposed for the current and next fiscal year, with the ex-servicemen tasked with safeguarding the main supply route, according to the letter.
Once recruitment is completed, police posts will be established along the highway to enhance security.
In the letter, the Additional Chief Secretary has been advised to send the summary to the Chief Minister for approval.
Kurram has long been a hotspot for tribal tensions, which reignited last month with deadly clashes leaving dozens dead. Efforts are underway to halt the violence between Muqbal and Kunj Alizai tribes in the Ucht Mandori area of Lower Kurram, following clashes on November 21.
