RAWALPINDI: Due to security threats, the surroundings of Adiala Jail have been further fortified to avoid any untoward incident.

Barbed wires are being erected within the outer surroundings of the Adiala jail and additional security forces have been deployed. Roads connecting to the Adiala Jail are also being fenced

Security checkpoints have been established along the roads leading to Adiala Jail, while banners indicating restrictions on meetings have been placed at the main entrance of the jail.

According to jail authorities, unauthorized individuals would not be allowed to stand or roam around the jail premises and only authorised persons are permitted to enter Adiala.

Terrorism attempt at Adiala Jail foiled

Additionally, media satellite vehicles are only allowed to be parked two kilometers away from the jail.

The Punjab government had earlier imposed a two-week ban on all public visits, meetings and interviews at the Adiala Jail citing security threats.

In a letter written to the IG Prisons, the Home Department said its Internal Security Wing had conveyed that “there exist different types of threats to [the] security of Adiala Jail, as some anti-state terrorist groups supported by the enemies of Pakistan had planned to conduct targeted attacks.

“As a security measure against the aforementioned attacks,” the department requested the prison chief to “stop the public visits/meetings/interviews within the Adiala Jail immediately for two weeks”.
