Air Force Day: President Zardari hails PAF’s legacy of bravery and excellence

ISLAMABAD: The nation marked Air Force Day on Saturday (September 7) with solemn ceremonies and renewed national pride. President Asif Ali Zardari led the tributes to the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) for its unmatched courage, professionalism, and historic contributions to the defense of the country.
In a statement commemorating the occasion, President Zardari paid glowing tribute to the PAF’s valiant role in safeguarding Pakistan’s airspace, saying, “The nation salutes its martyrs and veterans who laid down their lives in the defense of the motherland.”

Reflecting on the 1965 war, the President remarked, “Pakistan Air Force created a history of bravery and valor,” adding that the PAF has consistently upheld its legacy through decades of professional excellence.
President Zardari also highlighted the PAF’s modern warfare capabilities and strategic importance in recent conflicts. “Pakistan Air Force played a decisive role in the Marka-e-Haq Operation Bunyan-um-Marsoos,” he noted, referring to recent military operations where PAF provided critical air support and intelligence.
“The Air Force gave a befitting reply to the enemy on every front,” the President said, asserting that the PAF continues to be a symbol of strength and resolve for the nation. Praising the dedication and skills of the personnel, he said, “The nation is proud of the capabilities of Pakistan Air Force personnel,” adding that the world has witnessed the PAF’s “excellent professionalism.”
“The modern capabilities of the Pakistan Air Force are a guarantee of national defense,” President Zardari affirmed, reiterating that the force has “always vigorously defended the country’s airspace and integrity.”

Air Force Day is celebrated annually on September 7 to honor the heroics of the PAF, especially during the 1965 Indo-Pak war, when its pilots and airmen demonstrated extraordinary bravery under fire. Across the country, events were held to commemorate the sacrifices of fallen heroes and reaffirm the nation’s resolve to maintain a strong defense.
MAIN CEREMONY AT AIR HEADQUARTERS, ISLAMABAD
The day began with Quran recitation and special prayers at all bases and units of the PAF. These prayers were offered to pay homage to the martyrs who sacrificed their lives in the line of duty, defending Pakistan’s airspace and sovereignty, said a statement by the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR).
The central ceremony was held at the Air Headquarters in Islamabad, where Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Babar Sidhu served as the chief guest. In his address, the Air Chief highlighted the significance of the day, saying, “The sacrifices of our martyrs are a beacon of light for future generations. Martyrs’ Day is a symbol of bravery, dedication, and professionalism. The Pakistan Air Force is always ready to defend the airspace of the motherland.”
He added that the victories achieved during Operation Bunyan-um-Marsoos are a testament to the determination and professional capabilities of the Pakistan Air Force.
The Air Chief also reiterated unwavering support for the people of occupied Kashmir and accentuated the PAF’s commitment to advancing its capabilities in modern technologies and local defense production.
As part of the tribute, the Air Chief laid wreaths at the Martyrs’ Memorial and offered Fateha for the souls of the fallen heroes.
PUNJAB CM MARYAM NAWAZ PAYS TRIBUTE
In a message on the occasion of Air Force Day, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif extended heartfelt tributes to the heroes of the skies.
“Salute to the Shaheens of the Pakistan Air Force, who have always stood tall in defense of the nation,” she said. She hailed the professionalism and sacrifices of the PAF, noting, “September 7, 1965, is a bright chapter in the history of the Pakistan Air Force. The Shaheen-like pilots once again instilled fear in the enemy by shooting down Rafale aircraft.”
CM Maryam added that the unforgettable role of the PAF will be recorded in golden letters in the annals of national defense, and that the nation is proud of the courage and valor of its air warriors.
SINDH CM MURAD ALI SHAH CELEBRATES PAF
Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah also issued a statement marking Air Force Day, celebrating the courage and professionalism of the PAF. “Air Force Day is being celebrated with enthusiasm across the country, in memory of the great air battles fought for the defense of our homeland,” he said.
He recalled the heroics of the 1965 war, calling it a historic victory, “In 1965, the Pakistan Air Force demonstrated unmatched skill and bravery. Our air capabilities remain unparalleled and invincible.”

Referring to recent tensions, the Chief Minister said, “The Pakistan Air Force inflicted a humiliating defeat on India, shattering Modi’s pride.” Praising legendary war heroes, he said, “Our Shaheens are equipped with extraordinary abilities. Squadron Leader MM Alam’s feat of shooting down five enemy planes in a single minute remains unmatched.”
He concluded by paying tribute to all armed forces, “The nation pays homage to the great efforts and sacrifices of our Pakistani forces. We will always be proud of them.”
