LAHORE: The Lahore police have detained four workers from Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), including three women and a man, as they attempted to join a convoy headed to Islamabad for a scheduled party rally. The detentions occurred at Thokar Niaz Baig, where the convoy was intercepted by law enforcement.

The detained individuals were taken into custody for allegedly violating Section 144, a law that prohibits the assembly of five or more people and the holding of public gatherings without prior permission. Among those detained was Sheikh Imtiaz, a PTI Member of the Provincial Assembly (MPA).
These arrests happened when workers were still enroute to Islamabad, despite the party leadership announcing that the rally has been postponed. Earlier, the city administration revoked the rally permission given to PTI.
The police action comes amid heightened tensions between PTI supporters and the authorities, as the party continues its political mobilisation efforts. The convoy’s departure from Lahore was part of a broader plan to converge on Islamabad, but it has been met with strict resistance from the police, who have been instructed to enforce the law strictly.
Despite this setback, PTI is pressing ahead with its plans for a major rally in Islamabad on a rescheduled date. According to sources, the Islamabad district administration has granted PTI a No Objection Certificate (NOC) to hold the rally on September 8. The NOC was handed over to PTI officials, and the party’s leadership, including PTI’s District President Amir Mughal.
