WEB DESK: The Central Ruet-i-Hilal Committee declared on Saturday that the moon for Muharram has not been sighted in Pakistan.
Consequently, the first day of Muharram will commence on July 8 (Monday). As per the announcement, Ashura, which falls on Muharram 10, will be observed on July 17 (Wednesday).
Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad, chairman of the committee, disclosed these decisions at a press conference held in Quetta. He mentioned that the committee convened at the deputy commissioner’s office, while similar meetings were conducted by zonal committees in Islamabad, Lahore, Peshawar, and Karachi.
“No reports confirming moon sighting were received from any part of the country,” Maulana Azad stated, elaborating that based on consensus, July 8 has been designated as the first day of Muharram.
