How quickly can your phone be PTA approved after paying tax in 2024?

how to approve mobile from pta

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) approval has become a mandatory requirement for all mobile phones in Pakistan, especially for those intending to use a SIM card.

This regulation, in place since 2018, ensures that all locally manufactured phones are PTA approved, while phones imported from abroad require additional approval through the PTA by paying the necessary charges.

The approval process in 2024 involves generating a PSID (Payment Slip ID) from the e-Pay and PTA’s Device Identification Registration and Blocking System (DIRBS) website by creating an account on the official site. The corresponding charges can then be paid either online via a bank account or by physically submitting the payment at a bank.

When can you use your SIM after paying tax on your phone?

One of the primary concerns for individuals awaiting PTA approval is the duration it takes for their phone to be approved and capable of running a SIM card. Generally, once the PTA charges are paid, the phone can start functioning with a SIM card within three hours. However, the actual time can vary.

In some cases, the process might take more than three hours or up to 24 hours.

If the approval process extends beyond 24 hours, it is advisable to verify the IMEI numbers of the phone for which the tax was paid. Delays could be due to payment processing issues or other technicalities.

The Device Identification Registration and Blocking System (DIRBS) is an essential component of this regulatory framework. DIRBS is designed to identify non-compliant devices operating on local mobile networks.

It automatically registers compliant devices and eventually blocks non-compliant ones, ensuring that only approved devices function within the country’s telecommunication infrastructure.

While the PTA approval process is typically swift, users should be prepared for possible delays and ensure all payment and registration steps are correctly followed.

This system not only helps maintain a regulated mobile network but also protects consumers from potential issues related to non-compliant devices.

Tax compliance has become crucial in 2024, with the FBR now blocking the SIMs of non-filers. While PTA approval was already mandatory, it is now essential to become a tax filer by paying taxes to avoid having your SIM blocked.
