Assistant commissioner dies of heart attack during flood relief visit

PATTOKI: Assistant Commissioner Pattoki, Furqan Ahmed has passed away from a heart attack while visiting flood-affected areas at Head Balloki on the Ravi River.

A statement from the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Punjab announced on Saturday. The statement said that Ahmed was on an official visit to assess the flood situation when he suffered a heart attack, which proved fatal.

PDMA Director General Irfan Ali Kathia, expressed sorrow over the incident and offered prayers for the deceased officer. Condolences also poured in from the batch mates of the departed.

PUNJAB PDMA ISSUES FLOOD ALERT, URGES PREPAREDNESS

Meanwhile, Punjab Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued a high-level alert warning, yet again, of very high flood levels in the Sutlej, Ravi, and Chenab rivers and their adjacent tributaries from September 1 to 5 (Monday to Friday).

According to the PDMA, very high flood conditions are likely at Chenab Head Trimmu within the next 24 hours, while high flood levels are expected to persist at Ganda Singhwala on the Sutlej. Heavy rainfall is also forecast in the upper catchment areas of these rivers until September 3.

The PDMA has formally alerted all relevant administrative officials, including the Commissioners of Lahore, Sahiwal, Gujranwala, Sargodha, Faisalabad, Bahawalpur, Multan, and Dera Ghazi Khan, as well as Deputy Commissioners across more than 30 districts, including Lahore, Kasur, Sheikhupura, Gujrat, Sargodha, and Rahim Yar Khan.

In addition, alerts have been issued to departments including Local Government, Agriculture, Irrigation, Health, Forest, Livestock, and Transport. PDMA Director General Irfan Ali Kathia has instructed all departments to remain fully alert in accordance with the Chief Minister’s directives.

Punjab Relief Commissioner Nabeel Javed has also directed all relevant officials to stay prepared for any emergency developments.

Emergency control rooms have been activated, and the public is advised to follow safety instructions and cooperate with local administration in case evacuation becomes necessary.
