ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Foreign Office on Thursday clarified that the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government had been informed about the visit of foreign diplomats to Swat-Malam Jaba as the ministry has documented evidence of a memo issued in this regard.
A police van on the security of diplomats was targetted in an improvised explosive device on Swat-Malam Jaba Road on Sunday and as a result, one policeman was killed and four others were injured.
Foreign Office Spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch said that the ministry is considering action against the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce for failing to inform the foreign ministry about the diplomats’ visit to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
She added that “Pakistan guarantees the security of all diplomats. We invite foreign diplomats to travel across Pakistan.”
“Foreign diplomats are also reminded to adhere to the guidelines issued on multiple occasions. Pakistan is committed to providing security to any foreign diplomat,” she added.
During a media briefing, Foreign Office spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch stated that security agencies are investigating the incident and strict action is being taken against negligence.
