ISLAMABAD: The government is mulling an increase in the total number of Supreme Court judges. A bill in this regard is scheduled to be presented in the National Assembly on Friday.
According to sources, the bill proposes increasing the total number of SC justices to 23, from the current number of 17. If the bill passes, the apex court will have 23 justices including the Chief Justice of Pakistan.
The bill has already been presented by Barrister Danyal Chaudhary on the day of the private proceedings in the assembly.
Another amendment in the Practice and Procedure Act is also under discussion, sources said.
Earlier, the National Assembly session was scheduled to be concluded today (Tuesday). However, now the session has been extended until Friday to facilitate the submission, and likely approval, of this bill.
