SARGODHA: A bus driver and a conductor brutally assaulted two women over a fare dispute in Sargodha, prompting swift police action.

According to police, the incident took place in the rural area of Jhawarian, where a dispute over fare led to a heated argument between the women and the bus staff. During the altercation, bus driver Shaukat and conductor Shamsheer subjected the women to severe physical assault.

A video of the incident went viral on social media, showing the helpless women crying and pleading for help.

Under the vision of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, DPO Sargodha Muhammad Sohaib Ashraf led an immediate police response. Jhawarian police arrested the driver and conductor and initiated legal proceedings against them.

Maryam Nawaz strongly condemned the incident, stating, “Women and children are a red line. Any form of violence is unacceptable at any level.”

She assured that the safety and respect of women traveling on public transport would be strictly enforced.

The Punjab government is also working on launching a dedicated bus service for rural women to ensure safer travel.
