ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice of Pakistan Qazi Faez Isa has summoned a meeting of the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC), the sole constitutional forum empowered to scrutinise the conduct of superior court judges and recommend their removal as per Article 209 of the Constitution.
The meeting, scheduled for December 14 at the Supreme Court building, will be presided over by CJP Justice Qazi Faez Isa and will address various significant matters.
Meanwhile, the Supreme Court of Pakistan took note on Monday of the inconsistency between the judicial decision on lifetime disqualification under Article 62(1)(f) and the amendments made to the Elections Act, 2017.

A hearing has been scheduled for January 2024, and the matter concerning the determination of the disqualification period has been referred to the judges’ committee for the formation of a bench.
Notices have been issued to Attorney General for Pakistan Mansoor Usman Awan, advocate generals of all provinces, and the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to provide assistance to the Supreme Court in this matter.
Supreme Court’s decision comes as a result of a petition filed by Shamona Badshah Qaisrani, a former Member Provincial Assembly (MPA) of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), who faced disqualification in 2007.
