LAHORE: Chief Minister (CM) Punjab Maryam Nawaz has expressed her displeasure with the Food Department officials for presenting incorrect statistics regarding atta (flour) prices.

In a special meeting chaired by Maryam Nawaz, an unprecedented move was taken by bringing actual market prices of flour to the table.

The prices presented in the Food Department’s briefing differed from the actual market rates, prompting the Chief Minister to express her dissatisfaction over the misleading data.

During the meeting, it was decided to determine flour prices based on the Pakistan Quality Control Standards category. CM Punjab taking note of increasing atta prices demanded a daily report on market flour prices and decided in principle to allow the transportation of flour with permits.

On this occasion, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz stated, “I will not allow unjustified increases in flour prices. The mafias are at work while the departments are asleep. If the departments do not perform their duties, how will governance improve? The farmers have sold their wheat; now, the mafias will not be allowed to exploit the public.”

Maryam Nawaz directed the restructuring of the Food Department, ordering legal action against corrupt elements and the implementation of a digital monitoring mechanism for Food Department officers and employees.
