Complaint seeks probe into alleged financial misconduct by SC judge

ISLAMABAD: A complaint has been filed before the Supreme Judicial Council, seeking an inquiry into alleged financial misconduct by Supreme Court judge Justice Sardar Tariq Masood.
The complaint, filed by Civil Society Network Pakistan President Amina Malik, has sought disciplinary action against Justice Sardar Tariq Masood in connection with alleged financial misconduct and non-declaration of assets under Article 209 of the Constitution.
The complainant has also raised concerns about the transparency and credibility of the justice system.
The complaint alleges that Justice Sardar Tariq Masood has failed to disclose his financial affairs to the national and the Federal Board of Revenue, which is not only inappropriate but also raises questions about the integrity of a senior judge.

“It is important to note that under the law, judges are required to provide comprehensive information regarding their financial matters to ensure transparency and accountability,” the complaint says.
The complainant has accused Justice Sardar Tariq Masood of claiming a wealth of Rs246 million in his wealth statement, but this claim lacks substantial evidence documentary evidence and proper verification through the banking channel to establish the accuracy of such substantial claims under the income tax rules.
The complainant has highlighted the urgency of immediate action by the Supreme Judicial Council, as the lack of substantial documentary evidence for such a significant amount calls for thorough investigation and potential disciplinary action.
Moreover, the complaint also refers to the case of Justice Akhlaq Hussain, a senior judge who faced similar allegations, highlighting the importance of upholding the law and the credibility of the judiciary.
The complainant has emphasized that the individual representing Pakistan’s highest judiciary should exhibit the highest standards of integrity and legality.
The complaint has brought into question the choice of Justice Sardar Tariq Masood as a representative of Pakistan’s judiciary, suggesting that concealing heavy funds contradicts the oath taken by judges and signifies a grave breach of trust.
The complaint has underscored the need for thorough investigation and an impartial inquiry by the Supreme Judicial Council to ascertain the veracity of the claims and uphold the principles of justice and transparency.”
