ISLAMABAD: The National Assembly has approved a key relaxation in Central Superior Services (CSS) exam rules, increasing the upper age limit from 30 to 35 years.
The change will come into effect in 2026.
The proposal was moved by Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) MNA Syeda Nosheen Iftikhar, who sought to suspend routine proceedings to table the resolution. The House passed it without any opposition.
CSS 2024 results announced, only 2.5pc candidates pass
Under the revised policy, candidates will now be allowed up to five attempts at the CSS exam — one more than the current four.
Lawmakers called on the government to implement these changes without delay, saying aspirants need clarity to plan their preparation accordingly.
The CSS exam is considered a prestigious route to top federal positions, including roles in administration, foreign service, customs, and other elite groups.
Until now, only those aged 30 or below were eligible to apply.
This move aims to give more graduates and professionals the opportunity to compete, with extra time and chances to succeed in one of the country’s toughest exams.
