ISLAMABAD: On the occasion of Pakistan Defence Day, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Syed Asim Munir said that no external force can weaken Pakistan’s resolve for peace and security. He highlighted the significant role September 6 holds in the country’s history, marking a day of resilience and victory for Pakistan’s military forces against a larger adversary in the 1965 war.
In his address, the Army Chief paid homage to the courage and unity displayed by the armed forces and citizens during the 1965 war, which he described as a source of immense pride. “The spirit of national unity and solidarity that emerged during the war remains a beacon for future generations,” said the Army Chief.

He honoured the sacrifices of the martyrs, referencing Surah Al-Baqarah, verse 154, from the Holy Qur’an: “And do not say about those who are killed in the way of Allah , “They are dead.” Rather, they are alive, but you perceive [it] not.” This, he noted, underscores the high status of martyrs in Islam and their eternal significance in Pakistan’s defence narrative.
In a strong tribute, General Asim Munir saluted the fallen soldiers who defended the nation’s borders, asserting that the Pakistan Army’s motto of Unity, Faith, and Discipline remains its greatest weapon. He said, “Our officers and soldiers are fulfilling their duty to safeguard the country with unmatched devotion, and will continue to do so.”
Moving to present-day challenges, the Army Chief identified digital terrorism and 5th Generation Warfare as emerging threats, which he described as even more dangerous than traditional forms of terrorism. “Digital terrorism is complex and increasingly dangerous, and the world must understand the unique nature of this new battlefield,” he said. He assured that Pakistan’s armed forces are actively engaged in countering these threats, just as they successfully fought conventional terrorism.

The COAS said that Pakistan strongly desires peaceful coexistence with its neighbours, but resolution of Kashmir issue is essential for that peace. He urged the United Nations to recognise the centrality of Kashmir dispute to regional stability. The Army Chief also reiterated Pakistan’s support for the Palestinian cause.
In closing, the Army Chief called for unity among Pakistanis, encouraging them to rise above their differences for the sake of the country’s security, development, and prosperity. “As long as we remain united, no power in the world can harm Pakistan,” COAS General Asim Munir said.
