LAHORE: Overeating during Eidul Adha has taken a toll on citizens’ health, as more than 17,000 gastro patients were reported in Lahore’s government hospitals in just two days, according to the Punjab Health Department.

According to the data released by the health department, six major public hospitals in the city saw a sharp rise in gastroenteritis cases due to overeating during Eidul Adha.

Mayo Hospital reported over 5,000 cases with patients complaining of heartburn and bloating, Jinnah Hospital received more than 3,700 patients, Services Hospital saw over 3,000 cases while General Hospital and Ganga Ram Hospital also reported over 2,000 cases each.

Health officials say the sudden spike in gastro cases is due to uncontrolled consumption of spicy, oily, and unhygienic food during the Eid holidays.

People indulge in heavy meat dishes on Eid, which leads to serious problems in the gastrointestinal tract like reflux and acidity, which could wreak havoc on the body, according to medical experts

The department has urged citizens to observe caution and eat in moderation to avoid further health issues.

Medical experts have advised citizens to consume meat moderately and avoid overeating during Eid ulAdha celebrations.

Other experts also advises to avoid fizzy drinks with eating meat cooked in oil and to eat vegetables with every meal.
