ISLAMABAD: Caretaker Prime Minister Anwarul Haq Kakar promised to announce a relief plan regarding inflated electricity bills within the next 48 hours in a meeting with anchors and journalists held at the Prime Minister’s House in Islamabad on Thursday.
“The electricity bills will need to be paid and IMF [International Monetary Fund] conditions will be implemented,” he added.
“The Army is not getting free electricity, and the cost of their electricity is being paid through the defence budget,” said the PM. The caretaker prime minister said that the government was told that no one in the judiciary has free electricity and that only a small number of WAPDA employees in the lower grades have free electricity, while most officers in the higher grades have free units of electricity.

He also said that Pakistan is in ‘safe hands’. The premier said that the issue of rising electricity bills is not as serious as some people believe. He attributed the increase in rates to line losses, theft, and IPP contracts.
