ISLAMABAD: Supreme Court on Friday served show cause notice to independent Senator Faisal Vawda and MQM -P leader Mustafa Kamal.

The case is being heard by a three-member bench led by Chief Justice of Pakistan Qazi Faez Isa and comprising Justice Naeem Akhtar Afghan and Justice Irfan Saadat Khan. 

The Supreme Court on Friday sought details of a press conference held by independent Senator Faisal Vawda as it heard a suo motu case taken on his anti-judiciary rhetoric.

The top court took the notice after Vawda on Wednesday blasted the IHC judges over their letter alleging meddling by spy agencies in judicial affairs, saying that targeting of institutions should stop and Justice Babar Sattar’s citizenship.

A day after Vawda’s presser, Kamal also addressed a press wherein he demanded the implementation of dual citizenship law in all the institutions. 

“IHC says there is no restriction in the Constitution a dual citizen cannot become a judge,” said Kamal, pointing out that “a member of the assembly having dual nationality is sent to home”. 

Kamal claimed the judiciary had set “ethical standards” for politicians and the dual citizenship of judges was a “big question mark” and the judiciary should be made answerable on this issue, while Awn had termed it a crisis that would lead to an “anarchy in the country”.

Serving Faisal Vawda and Mustafa Kamal with show cause notice, the Supreme Court has ordered the two lawmakers to appear before the court in personal capacity intwo weeks time and explain their statements.

The contempt hearing has been adjourned till June 5.
