Under the new amendments, recipients of gifts will no longer be allowed to keep them personally. Instead, these gifts will be displayed prominently within the premises of the recipient’s institution. Proper records will be maintained for all shields, souvenirs, and other gifts, ensuring meticulous documentation and oversight.

Additionally, the Cabinet has decided to increase the remuneration for private sector experts who assess the value of these gifts. This move is aimed at attracting highly qualified professionals to ensure accurate and fair valuation of the items.

These changes build upon the Toshakhana Policy 2023, previously approved by the federal cabinet under the PDM government.

The 2023 policy prohibits the president, prime minister, and cabinet members from accepting gifts valued over $300. However, gifts below this amount can be retained by paying the assessed value, as per the prevailing procedure.
