Federal cabinet fails to approve constitutional amendment draft

ISLAMABAD: An emergency meeting of the federal cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, to approve the constitutional amendment draft was adjourned without any decision.
The cabinet meeting, which began at 7:30pm, was rescheduled until 9:30 am tomorrow.
According to sources, federal ministers and cabinet members attended the cabinet meeting, but no decision could be taken during the session.
A statement issued later confirmed that the meeting has been rescheduled till tomorrow morning.
Once the federal cabinet approves the constitutional amendment, it will be sent to the Senate for approval, followed by the National Assembly.
Eelier, Pakistan People’s Party MNA Syed Khurshid Shah claimed that the special committee of the parliament has unanimously approved the draft of the proposed constitutional amendment during the final round of its meeting.
Following the meeting, Khurshid Shah told the media confirming the unanimous approval of the draft of the proposed constitutional amendment.
He also said that the committee also reached a consensus to allow overseas Pakistanis to contest elections.
