Federal Cabinet moves to challenge china salt import ban


The Federal Cabinet decided to pursue a review petition against the Supreme Court’s ruling that prohibits the importation of china salt.

ISLAMABAD: The Federal Cabinet decided to pursue a review petition against the Supreme Court’s ruling that prohibits the importation of china salt.

The review follows a recommendation from the Ministry of Commerce, which citied a report from a specialised committee of experts affirming that safety of china salt for human consumption.

The Federal Cabinet also granted preliminary approval for the creation of the Islamabad Central Business District Development Authority.

The initiative was proposed by the Interior Ministry. The aim is to encourage economic growth and attract investment in the capital’s business sector.

The cabinet also approved the renewal of several memoranda of understanding (MoUs) with prominent educational institutions, including Cambridge University, St Anthony’s College at  Oxford University, Peking University in China, the University of Jordan and Heidelberg University in Germany.

The agreements are designed to enhance academic collaboration and research initiatives between Pakistan  and wider global community.

The cabinet also sanctioned adjustments to the jurisdiction and operational scope of the Special Courts in Sindh.

Similar modifications were made to the Customs and Taxation Courts, as well as the Anti-Smuggling Courts in Quetta and Khuzdar. The aim is to improve their reflectivity.  

Similarly, the cabinet approved the appointment of new member to the Board of Governors for the University of Engineering and Technology (UET) Lahore and the Centre of Excellence in Mineralogy at the University of Balochistan.
