PESHAWAR: The provincial capital is grappling with its first reported case of dengue virus, as confirmed by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Health Department.
The emergence of this case has prompted swift action from health officials, who have issued directives to all districts across the province to ramp up efforts in combating the spread of the disease.
In response to the alarming development, the Health Department has underscored the importance of timely confirmation and reporting of cases, emphasizing that swift and decisive action is crucial in containing the outbreak.
Districts throughout Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have been urged to devise robust strategies aimed at curbing the transmission of the dengue virus.
With the onset of warmer weather, the risk of dengue outbreaks typically escalates, making proactive measures imperative.

Meanwhile the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa health department has developed the Dengue Action Plan, 2024, with a focus on the identification and destruction of mosquito larvae and strengthening surveillance and case management in local hospitals to prevent and control the infectious disease.
The plan has been sent to the chief secretary for approval, according to director (public health) at the directorate-general (health services) Dr Irshad Roghani.
He told Dawn that the plan contained measures for checking the production of mosquitoes, the carrier and transmitters of dengue virus, and the building of the capacity of hospital staff members for better case management to ensure that infected patients have access to diagnosis and treatment on time.
“We have demanded Rs145 million to execute the plan,”he said.
