Five accused in May 9 violence case get bail

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court has approved the bail of the five individuals accused in the May 9 tragedy.
The decision was made in relation to the case registered at the New Town police station.
During the proceedings, Justice Hasan Azhar Rizvi said that the accused were alleged to have been involved in firing, yet no weapons were recovered and no injuries to the police were reported.

The investigating officer’s testimony was scrutinised, with doubts raised about the validity of the evidence presented.
In questioning the evidence against the accused, Justice Hasan Azhar Rizvi pointed out the absence of CCTV footage due to alleged damage to cameras by protestors. Justice Jamal Mandokhail expressed scepticism towards the case, suggesting that restrictions on political activities may have led to unjust accusations.
Furthermore, concerns were raised about the inclusion of terrorism charges in the case. Justice Jamal Mandokhail emphasised the distinction between peaceful rallies and acts of terrorism.

Ultimately, the court granted bail to the accused upon payment of a Rs 50,000 bond.
