Foreigners involved in political activities will be deported: Bugti

ISLAMABAD: Caretaker Interior Minister Sarfraz Bugti has announced that foreigners who participate in political activities in the country will face deportation, regardless of their legal status.

He said that only Pakistanis have the right to do politics in Pakistan, and that any foreigner who violates this rule will be sent back without delay.

Bugti made these remarks while addressing the media in Islamabad on Friday. He said that the authorities have identified around 10 foreigners who were politically active and have initiated the process of deporting them. He added that more than 482,000 foreigners have voluntarily returned to their countries so far, and that there was no mistreatment or harassment of any foreigner.

Bugti also spoke about the security arrangements for the upcoming general election, scheduled for February 8, 2024.

He said that the government will fulfill all the requirements of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to ensure a peaceful and transparent election.

He said that the leaders of various political parties should be able to campaign freely and the people should be able to cast their votes without any fear or intimidation.

He revealed that the leader of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI) Maulana Fazlur Rehman had received a threat from an unknown source, and that the security agencies were investigating the matter. He said that there may be some security challenges during the election period, but the government was capable of controlling them.

He said that the government will provide the necessary paramilitary force to the ECP as per its demand.
