Former SC judge Sarmad Jalal Usmani passes away

KARACHI: Former Supreme Court (SC) judge Justice (R) Sarmad Jalal Usmani passed away on Monday after battling cancer, the Supreme Court Karachi Registry has confirmed.
He was 75 years old.
His funeral prayers will be held tomorrow (Tuesday) after Asr prayers at Hamza Masjid, DHA Phase 8, Karachi.

Justice (R) Usmani had served the judiciary with distinction and was known for his significant contributions to Pakistan’s legal system.
He was appointed as a judge of the Sindh High Court in 1998, where he presided over cases across various fields of law, including shipping, banking, property, taxation, constitutional, and criminal matters.
Earlier, he served as a law professor at Sindh Muslim Law College, Karachi, teaching LL.B. and LL.M. classes from 1980 to 1982, and again from 1985 to 1998. His subjects included contract law, sale of goods, company law, and international law.
President of the Sindh High Court Bar Association, Sarfaraz Mehtab, expressed grief over his demise and paid tribute to the former judge’s services to the country’s judicial system.
