Nation observes death anniversary of Allama Iqbal with reverence

Allama Iqbal death anniversary

ISLAMABAD: The 87th death anniversary of Allama Mohammad Iqbal is being observed today with reverence and respect across the country.

Born on November 9, 1877, in Sialkot, Iqbal was a visionary who presented the idea of a separate homeland for Muslims in the subcontinent. That vision later became reality in the form of Pakistan.

Through his poetry and philosophy, Iqbal urged Muslims to seek knowledge, believe in themselves, and rise for a greater cause.

President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, in their messages, paid rich tribute to Iqbal. They urged the nation to follow his teachings and work together to make Pakistan strong, sovereign, and prosperous.

President Zardari called Iqbal a thinker and reformer, who deeply felt the decline of the Muslim world and used his words to inspire change. He said Iqbal’s poetry focused on selfhood, spiritual revival, and freedom of thought.

“Iqbal called Muslims towards knowledge, wisdom, confidence, and the message of true Islam,” he said.

Will May 1st be a public holiday in Pakistan?

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif called Iqbal not just a poet, but a farsighted leader. He recalled Iqbal’s famous 1930 Allahabad address, where the idea of a separate Muslim state was clearly presented for the first time.

He added that this vision was later turned into reality by Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, resulting in the creation of Pakistan.

Events, seminars, and special gatherings are being held across the country to honour Iqbal’s role in shaping Pakistan’s ideological foundation.
