General elections: ECP does not have its own server to store data

ISLAMABAD: Preparations for the general elections are underway at the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP). In this regard, the ECP also successfully tested Election Management System (EMS) in all four provinces.

ECP has tested the EMS from the offices of Regional Election Commissioners, District Election Commissioners in various districts, the EMS system has been developed keeping in mind the modern requirements.

However, during the testing, it was also revealed that the ECP does not have its own server to store data. The servers from National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) will be used for general elections.

The server hosting agreement between the ECP and NADRA has been concluded. ECP will pay rent for server hosting of NADRA.

Through EMS, the results can be sent online and offline, the presiding officers will send the results of their polling stations to the returning officers.

The returning officers will prepare the results and send them digitally and manually to the ECP. Each returning officer will be assigned four data entry operators. The ECP has also conducted training exercises for data entry operators.
