QUETTA: Google Inc and the Balochistan government have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to provide 2000 scholarships and internship opportunities to students across the province.

The initiative aims to equip young people with the skills required for online work. The tech giant will also provide support in the digitalisation of the provincial information department.

The MoU signing ceremony was witnessed by Balochistan Finance Minister Zamrik Khan Achakzai.

Achakzai told journalists that the agreement was an important development and that “Chief Minister Abdul Quddus Bizenjo is deeply interested in providing dignified employment to the youth.”

He noted that last year in May Google provided 1,000 scholarships, and more than 900 people had enrolled in this program.

Information Secretary Muhammad Hamza Shafaqat, who was also present at the ceremony, claimed that “young people with internships will receive international certification that will enable them to get online jobs and earn up to $1,000 per month.”

Others attending the MoU signing included Chief Secretary Abdul Aziz Aqaili, Information Technology Secretary Tayyab Lahri, and Google Team Leader Umar Farooq.
