Govt to impose ban on export of chicks

ban on export of chicks

LAHORE: In order to stabilize the escalating chicken rates, the government has decided to impose a ban on export of chicks.

According to food ministry sources, a summary has been prepared in this regard and sent to the cabinet for approval.

If a ban on the export of chicks is approved, it could lead to a considerable decrease in chicken prices by Rs 200, according to sources.

Items are exported if they are in surplus, we are already facing a shortage, the sources maintained.

After Eid, the prices of chicken in many parts of the country had skyrocketed to Rs780 per kg.

The skyrocketing rates of chicken have created huge volatility in the market forcing many families to boycott purchasing the commodity.

On the other hand, Pakistan Poultry Association (PPA) Chairman, Chaudhry Muhammad Ashraf in a statement said the increase in the current prices of poultry is due to demand and supply. He said that the increase in poultry business inputs and cost of doing business has been witnessed across the country due to which the market was in crisis.

He said many people in the business were affected by the current crisis, especially small businesses as many have winded up their setups, adding the poultry business in the four provinces was suffering from the current economic crisis.
