Green Tractor scheme launched in Punjab on CM’s directive

LAHORE: In a move to boost agricultural productivity and empower farmers, the Punjab government launched the Green Tractor scheme under the directive of the Chief Minister of Punjab on Tuesday.

The initiative aims to offer small, medium, and large tractors to farmers at subsidised rates, facilitating mechanisation in the agricultural sector.

The announcement came during a meeting chaired by Punjab’s Agriculture Minister, Ashiq Hussain Kirmani. The minister stated that the scheme would help improve farm mechanisation and empower farmers across the province.

The scheme  will operate for only a single year and will focus mechanising the entire process from tractor procurement to delivery to farmers to ensure efficiency.

The agrcltural minister said the government is “committed” to maintaining high-quality standards in implementing the scheme. The tractors are adorned in green bearing the label “Chief Minister Punjab Tractor Scheme.”

The Secretary of Agriculture Punjab, Iftikhar Ali Sahoo, talked about the benefits of the scheme for farmers and the tractor industry. He said it helped ensure transparent processes in tractor delivery, application receipt, and balloting, while maintaining quality standards.

Special Secretary Shehanshah Faisal Azeem and other officials participated in the meeting to discuss the scheme’s implementation and ensure its successful execution.
