PESHAWAR: The banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) has claimed responsibility for the firing incident in Hangu district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Saturday, during which three law enforcement officers were injured.
The incident occurred in the Shanaori Zargari area, where security forces engaged with militants. A joint counter-terrorism operation was then launched, during which police and security forces killed nine terrorists.
As a result of the militants’ firing, Hangu District Police Officer (DPO) Muhammad Khalid, Station House Officer (SHO) Nabi Khan, and an officer of a law enforcement agency sustained bullet injuries.
“District Police Officer Hangu Khalid Khan, who was injured during the operation, is undergoing surgery at the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) Kohat. His condition is said to be satisfactory,” Regional Police Officer (RPO) Kohat Abbas Majeed Marwat said in a statement.
The RPO said the operation is going on successfully and full action is being taken against the terrorists.
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and Inspector General of Police (IGP) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Zulfiqar Hameed spoke to the injured officers and enquired about their well-being.
The interior minister paid tribute to Hangu DPO and his entire team for bringing five terrorists to a tragic end. “You are the hero of the nation. We are proud of you,” Naqvi told the DPO on telephone.

This incident highlights the ongoing security challenges in the region, which has witnessed increased militant activity in recent months. Hangu district, located near Pakistan’s western border, remains a sensitive area where security forces regularly conduct counter-terrorism operations.
Meanwhile, the police department has assured that operations against terrorist elements in Hangu district will continue until the area is cleared. “We are determined to continue our fight against terrorism,” IGP Zulfiqar Hameed said.
