ISLAMABAD: Heavy rains in the twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi have brought life to a standstill, with roads inundated and traffic-choked across various parts of the two cities and water entering low lying areas.

The torrential downpour has caused significant disruption, leaving residents grappling with the aftermath.

The heavy rainfall has flooded major roads across Islamabad, creating massive traffic jams and chaos for commuters. Key roads, including major arteries, have been submerged, causing long delays and forcing drivers to find alternate routes.

In several low-lying areas, the situation is even more dire. Rainwater has entered homes, causing damage to property and leaving residents stranded. The affected neighborhoods are experiencing power outages and water shortages, adding to the difficulties faced by the local population.

Tragically, a young child drowned after falling into a rain drainage ditch in Sector H-13. Rescue teams are actively conducting operations in the area, racing against time to locate and recover the child.  88 millimeter of rain has been recorded in H-13.

RAIN EMERGENCY IMPOSED IN RAWALPINDI

Rawalpindi’s situation is equally grim, and a rain emergency has been imposed in the city. The administration has been placed on high alert.

At Khyban-e-Sir Syed water has entered homes, forcing families to evacuate and seek shelter elsewhere. Residents are struggling to cope with the sudden deluge, as authorities work to provide assistance and relief.

The water leval ay Nullah Leh is increasing raising fears of flood. The water level at Katarian has reached 22.7 feet. The authorities have started evacuation in the nearby areas.

Local authorities are urging citizens to remain indoors and avoid unnecessary travel, as rescue teams and municipal workers are deployed to clear roads and assist those in need.

The Meteorological Department has forecast more rain in the coming days, raising concerns about further flooding and disruption.
