Imran Khan, Bushra Bibi acquitted in the iddat case

Imran Bushra Iddat case

ISLAMABAD: Session Court has acquitted Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaaf founder Imran Khan and his spouse Bushra Bibi in the nikkah iddat case and has ordered their immediate release.

Earlier the Islamabad district and sessions court reserved its verdict on appeals filed by former prime minister Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi against their conviction in the Iddat case.

Additional district and session judge Afzal Majoka announcing the reserved verdict on the nikkah iddat case today accepted the appeals plea of Imran Khan and his spouse Bushra Bibi and nullified their earlier conviction in the case.

Judge Afzal Majoka also ordered that Imran Khan and Buhsra Bibi be released immediately if they are not arrested in any other case.

Khawar Maneka’s counsel Zahid Asif advocate and Imran Khan’s counsels Imran Sabir, Murtaza Tori and Zahid Dar appeared before the court in today’s court hearing.

Earlier, District and Sessions Judge Shahrukh Arjumand, in a letter, requested the Islamabad High Court to transfer the case to another judge as he could not announce the verdict due to a lack of trust by petitioner Khawar Maneka.

It’s noteworthy that PTI founder and Bushra Bibi were indicted on February 3 by senior Civil Judge Qudratullah, who sentenced them to seven years imprisonment and a fine of 0.5 million each in the ‘nikkah during iddat’ case.

It announced the verdict while hearing Bushra’s ex-husband Khawar Farid Maneka’s plea seeking legal action against Imran for marrying his wife Bushra allegedly without completion of the latter’s mandatory Iddat period.

Separately, the Islamabad High Court had ordered the sessions court to decide in 10 days on pleas by the PTI founder and his wife.
