Imran Khan has finally admitted masterminding May 9 attacks, says Maryam Nawaz

LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Maryam Nawaz said on Tuesday that at last PTI founder Imran Khan had admitted that he was the mastermind of the May 9 attacks on government and military installations.

On Monday, Imran Khan while talking to journalists during a hearing of a case inside Adiala jail admitted that he gave a call for a protest outside the army headquarters in Rawalpindi before his arrest

 “I had given a call for holding a peaceful protest outside the General Headquarters (GHQ) before my arrest,” Imran Khan said, adding that police and Rangers attacked my house in Zaman Park on 14 March.

In a statement, while referring to the PTI, she said it was not a political party, but a gang of miscreants who were bent upon causing damage to the state by spreading anarchy.  

The chief minister alleged that Zaman Park, Imran Khan’s residence in Lahore, served as a training center for terrorists. “There, the PTI workers were trained in manufacturing petrol bombs and carrying out attacks on the state.”

CM Maryam accused the PTI founder of orchestrating the May 9 attacks during his four-month period of bed rest after the Wazirabad incident.

She wondered how the protest by the PTI leaders and workers on May 9 could be termed peaceful when over 200 military installations were attacked. “Pakistan Airforce jets were set on fire; corps commanders’ residences were set alight and even the memorials of Pakistan Army martyrs were damaged,” she recalled.
