Imran Khan threatens to launch ‘civil disobedience’ movement

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaaf founder Imran Khan has threatened to launch a civil disobedience movement if his demands are not met.

In a tweet on ‘X’ Imran Khan warning the government of launching a civil disobedience movement from December 14 if his demands, the release of political prisoners and formation of a judicial commission to probe the May 9 and November 26 events, are not met.

He also announced a five-member negotiation team comprising Omar Ayub Khan, Ali Amin Gandapur, Sahibzada Hamid Raza, Salman Akram Raja and Asad Qaiser for talks with the government in this connection.

“If our demands are not met, we will begin a civil disobedience movement,” Imran warned, holding the government responsible for the consequences.

Imran has also announced a grand gathering in Peshawar on December 13 to honour what he described as “martyrs” of the Islamabad protest.

He alleged that hundreds of PTI workers remain missing and urged the Supreme Court to intervene, accusing courts of ignoring human rights violations.

“We sought justice from the Supreme Court, Lahore, and Islamabad High Courts, but no action was taken,” Imran stated, calling for the judiciary to fulfill its constitutional role.

PTI’s highly anticipated protest in Islamabad, which sought Imran’s release after over a year in detention, ended abruptly after a government crackdown. PTI claims at least 12 workers were killed and 1,000 arrested during the protest. However, the government denies using live ammunition and reported the deaths of four law enforcement personnel, including three Rangers and a police officer.
