ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has launched an inquiry into reports of disruptions in internet services in certain regions of the country. Addressing the issue in a statement on Monday, the PTA maintained that the overall status of internet access throughout the nation remains unaffected.

This statement follows widespread disruptions experienced by social media platforms across the country on Sunday, with numerous users encountering difficulties in accessing popular sites such as YouTube, Facebook, and X (formerly Twitter).

According to monitoring service Downdetector, these disruptions, particularly affecting website versions, commenced after 7:00 pm on Sunday.

Cities such as Karachi, Lahore, Mir Pur Khas, and Rawalpindi were identified as the most severely impacted areas. Complaints from a substantial number of netizens flooded in, detailing the challenges they faced in accessing the aforementioned platforms. Some users resorted to reporting the internet slowdown through alternative platforms like WhatsApp.

PTA is actively investigating the matter and has assured the public that they are committed to resolving the issue and maintaining the normalcy of internet services across the country.
