Islamabad airport upgrades facilities to combat human trafficking and smuggling

Islamabad Airport

ISLAMABAD: In a significant move toward enhancing border security, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) collaborated with the European Union (EU) and the International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD) to unveil a state-of-the-art ‘second line’ border control office at Islamabad International Airport.

The inauguration ceremony, presided over by Director General (DG) FIA, Mohsin Hassan Butt, took place at the FIA Academy in Islamabad.

This cutting-edge facility, established through joint efforts with the European Union and ICMPD, is equipped with advanced forensic and IT tools designed to identify and combat irregular migration, smuggling, and human trafficking activities detected at the airport.

Its sophisticated infrastructure enables the FIA to access real-time information on the latest trends in document forgeries from international databases, bolstering their capabilities in ensuring stringent border control.
